The Hover High School was constructed to replace the previous school building (built in 1923)- that burned during Christmas vacation in 1924. Until 1933 it was known as Hover High School. During the 1933-34 school year the name was changed to River View High School. River View High School lasted until 1957-when Hover became a ghost town (due to the rising water of Lake Wallula-in back of McNary Dam) and the school was abandoned. In 1957 an elementary school building in Finley (The previous Finley High School) became River View High School (To carry on the tradition of the abandoned High School in Hover) In 1979 a new River View High School was built in Finley.
